SoftHands studies the grasping and manipulation behaviours in humans to develop a new architecture of hand based on the concept, discovered by the neuroscience, of sensorimotor synergies. The new hand is moved by a new generation on "muscles", the Variable Stiffness Actuators, embodying the ability to move in a natural way and adapt the movements to different environments directly in the physical structure of the system, thus granting both compliance and robustness.
